I believe that from my review of cancer causing chemicals, that I have identified the aromatic hydrocarbon receptor to be the same as the steroid receptor.

The reason I believe that is because many cancer causing chemicals are also very capable of poisoning the steroidal metabolic pathways and double as gender benders and the parallel observation that estrogen therapies which must use the steroid receptors have led to increased risk of cancer.

These observations lead me to conclude that particular aromatic hydrocarbons have functional groups that enable binding to steroid receptors where they can either block it and prevent function or send a signal and increase function and send a signal and reregulate gene function or mutate genes thereby inducing cancer or mutations leading to cancer.

I reached this conclusion back in 1999 or thereabouts while categorizing carcinogens and noted how many were also gender benders. This observation doesn't rule out the high probability that other pathways for toxicity of this class of chemicals also exists.
