Here, we present a continuous quantitative reconstruction of atmospheric O2 over the past 1.5 billion years using an isotope mass balance approach that combines bulk geochemistry and tectonic recycling rate calculations. We predict that atmospheric O2 levels during the Neoproterozoic oscillated between ~1 and ~50% of the present atmospheric level. We conclude that there was no simple unidirectional rise in atmospheric O2 during the Neoproterozoic, and the first animals evolved against a backdrop of extreme O2 variability. Viborg Chimaeral Variant Implications of HERV for The Human Species. This is Pure Conjecture. Original 11 February 2011 There is Mendelian genetics and then there is the following and we must also account for epigenetics which I don't discuss here though its possibly a great player in the whole genome story. Because we share genes in common with everything from a banana to chimps and bacteria to viruses is logical to deduce that science is on the cusp of a great discovery of the human race. We are a pluripotent genetic chimaera. How I arrived at this INTRIGUING IDEA is from a long standing consideration of trying to find an explanation for autism, schizophrenia, and the 26 genes for mental retardation on the human X chromosome and several days ago, finding out that we have 50,000 human endogenous retroviruses HERV's in the non-coding regions of our DNA genome. Multicellular organisms that have mitchondria, golgi apparatae, amoeboid cells are really a symbiont of a variety of cell types each contributing something vital to the organism including quite possibly a behavioral component. This makes eukaryotes a chimaera, a bizarre hybrid of species and classes of organisms. With the discovery of HERV's, we must accept that we are also hybridized with endogenous retroviruses, some so deeply incorporated into our genomes, that they are not recognized by the immune system as other when they happen to produce their proteins in a reading frame and they may in fact through mutations and selection, provide benefits to evolutionary fitness. The Retrovirus Life Cycle Unlike most other organisms, the genome of a retrovirus is composed of RNA instead of DNA. This means that infectious retroviral particles contain RNA. After infection of a cell by a retrovirus, the viral RNA is released into the cell along with several proteins which are required for the initial steps of viral replication. One of these proteins is called reverse transcriptase. After the release of the RNA, the reverse transcriptase makes, or transcribes, a DNA copy of the viral genome. This DNA copy is then inserted somewhat randomly into the DNA of the infected cell. The insertions occur in areas of the cell's DNA that are undergoing the normal DNA replication that happens prior to cell division, so only actively growing cells can support insertion of viral DNA. After the DNA copy is inserted into the cell's DNA, viral sequences then direct the expression of the viral genome. During this process, which in the case of MMTV occurs in response to estrogen, a complete RNA copy of the entire viral genome is produced. This RNA is then packaged into infectious viral particles, and the viral particles are subsequently released from the cell where they can infect another cell and start the whole cycle again. Insertional Mutagenesis During the viral life cycle the insertion of the viral genome occurs most of the time within "silent" regions of the cell's DNA. These silent regions, which account for the vast majority of the DNA within a cell, have no known function. Sometimes, however, the insertion occurs within or very near the DNA base pairs that make up a gene, and the presence of the virus's inserted DNA alters the function of that gene. The altered gene is said to have been mutated, and this process is called insertional mutagenesis. If the normal function of a gene is critical to the survival of the cell, then a mutation of the gene will kill the infected cell. But if the gene controls a non-critical function of the infected cell, such as its growth, the cell can survive the insertion despite the fact that the cell's physiology has been permanently altered. In some cases this mutation has no outward effect on the cell, but in other cases the mutation can have profound effects on how the cell grows and behaves. Other HERV's are known to cause autoimmune diseases and there are quite a number of them. I thought why not diseases that affect human consiousness and behavior as well and of course they must, because like the mitochondria, golgi, plasmid of old, each addition to the mix that is eukaryotes must bring a behavioral component as well. I think now that I have identified that we humans have pluripotent chimaeral variants in existence and what we call disease in some cases is really the HERV taking over the ape inherited behavioral component of our species making us a HERV human hybrid, Herv-Borgs or short hand Viborgs if you will. 50,000 HERV's that live in our DNA cannot be ignored regarding their potential to alter our being. I think it is entirely within the frame of reality to postulate here and now that human virus hybrids, HERV-Borgs or Viborgs can and do exist and we simply didn't realize this until molecular genetics had advanced to where it is today. Mysterious psychological diseases that have bizarre unexplained elements coud possibly be cases of Viborgs. Conversely if an individuals behavior is ape_like, simian if you will, then they are a Simborg. Simply put. More variants of humans exist than we have recognized previously by manifestation of HERV product and they may be HERV-Ape hybrids. The Ape lineage is too narrow a perspective for what it is to be Human. Some proportion of psychopathologies that manifest clearly un-ape like behavior are potentially Viborgs, this other variant whose HERV DNA is not in the silent region sleeping at all but is the virus very much producing protein product. PHYSICAL EVOLUTION, THE CREATION OF THE FRAMEWORK FOR ORGANIC EVOLUTION Big Bang-release of eternal energy, expansion, cooling, 4 Forces peeled off. The laws of the universe emerge with pure energy from the singularity. -Higgs energy field, is everywhere, imparts mass to particles. I like to think of bottom spin on a cue ball stuttering on a rutted table top made of energy density which raises energy of the ball, entangling it with space time which translates into mass. Excitation of the Higgs field is the Higgs Boson. M Theory says strings moving through 11 dimensions causes mass. Einstein E=mc^2 -Since the energy density is the fabric of space time I imagine quantum mechanics is entangled with space time through the Higgs interaction creating the phenomenon Einstein called relativity and which I conjecture imaginatively as gravitational entanglement, the conjugation of quantum mechanics and relativity. -Standard model, quantum mechanics, quantum entanglement and gravity, relativity. It is all about the behavior of energy and how it gathers and interacts. -The DNA of the physical universe is the shape-set of the curled invisible dimensions of string theory. Each shape-set determines the properties of a possible universe. There are 10^500 possible shapes. The Big Bang diversion via expansion, cooling, layers of the four forces diverge. -Protons and anti-protons form -Symmetry splitting, more protons than antiprotons->proton (matter) universe. They p differ in half lives enabling matter to dominate. Quarks gather in protons and neutrons. Creation of atomic nuclei. -Gases cool, gravity collects into early galaxies and suns. Convergence. -Galaxies, suns, supernovas are born leading to fusion, fission, beta decay nucleosynthesis of elements, periodic table is filled. Our building ingredients mfg'd (O, C, N, S, Fe, Ca, Mg, Na, K, ...) ie created. Creation of new atomic species from gathering protons and neutrons into atoms by electron shells (SPDF orbitals). -Supernovas blow elements into surrounding universe in another Big Bang divergence, expansion carries them off into foamy matrix, gravity collects ejecta into solar systems, planets in another convergence inside galaxies. Supernovas happen every day. Periodic table elements being re-created universe wide constantly. -Quantum mechanics creates molecules for life both in space and on earth and in space, ex. AA, nucleic acids, ribose. Varieties exist just like with Darwin's finches. -Asteroids, comets deliver molecules of life to planets and some are created by Urey Miller synthesis. In Goldilocks planets there is biomolecular synthesis of AA, proteins, nucleic acids; ongoing also in other regions of the universe in various stages. Combinants converge. Super varieties formed. -Physical evolution creates materials and opportunity for infinite chance events to diversify and a framework for them to happen and exist within. Given infinite time and space and randomness, the least improbable event becomes certitude. -Physical evolution is the creator of the universe and science is the way to know it. We are inseparably part of it all and the energy in our quarks and electrons is as ancient as the big bang, 13.7 bya. -The universe is homogenous enough to assert definitively that these physical evolutionary synthetic processes are broadly similar and universe wide such as to set the stage for organic evolution throughout the cosmos with vagaries of serendipity helping dictate the exact results whence cometh my assertion of the General Theory. Supernovae function vis a vis nucleosynthesis and cooling related force delamination phase changes are likely not affected by modest changes in homogeneity nor isotropy even in an accelerating universe.

To get from first chordates, among which Boron is essential, to high forms of life like Hylonomus and Mammal like reptiles and eventually us was either because of cosmic ray nucleosynthesis of micronutrient boron by spallation or a contributory addition to solar generation by this process in a star and planet forming regions of the universe. The question arises; do we owe our existence to cosmic rays or how much do we owe it?

Boron metabolism and Animals. Boron has an impact on skeletal metabolism, thus it affects bone growth and compositional properties of soft tissues in animals and humans. Boron rich diets have a beneficial impact on bone calcification and maintenance in mammals, central nervous system functions, as well as have a positive role in maintaining structural integrity and functions of cell membranes. Dietary borate improves the metabolic status of cattle during periparturient period by stimulating glucose metabolism and limiting lipolysis intensity. In humans an increased boron consumption has been associated with a decreased incidence of several types of cancers (like lung, cervical or breast cancer). Here is my evolution page.

I use it to post some of the most difficult issues in the field which are high value research topics scientifically and philosophically. It is also an addendum to The General Theory of Universal Evolution I published some years ago.

Epigenetics heritability and Lateral gene transfer are two of the most recent hot addendums. Epigenetics affects us by altering and passing along gene profiles environmentally induced and lateral gene transfers means our genome is a chimera, made up of myriad genes and genome fragments inherited from our evolutionary contacts from the very beginning as well as having those genomes and genes inherited linearly from ancestors. We see this most vividly in endogenous retroviruses that express in disease or govern DNA behavior. Epigenetics shows us that environment is vital and dynamic in gene expression.

We are 98.6% chimp genes, 1.4% newer genes but at the subatomic level we are simple up quarks, down quarks, gluons and electrons, indistinguishable from the rest of the universe. We are basically the universe become conscious pondering itself having identified the Standard Model or Quantum Field Theory of the Universe and also elucidated the Human Genome! Physical evolution created habitable Worlds and the atoms and Organic Evolution created life.

Universal evolution is the creator and we humans made the Gods. This scientifically proven conclusion has brooad ramificatrions for religion, philosophy, human survival and functionality of planet Earths ecosystems.
