My digging into the literature has turned up this
juicy tidbit. Mad cow disease, the human variant which is called
Creutzfeld Jacob Disease, has always had a one in a million rate of
occurrence in Canada. All the hullabaloo that is made about Mad Cow and
Prion disease is about a natural disease that is also endemic in
wildlife. Deer and Elk and I am sure other animals have been found with
this disease in both Canada and the USA. This disease is present
probably around the world in nature and is only facilitated by human
activities of feeding ungulates animal protein products, a practice that
is easy to stop. It is the same type of disease as Kuru in Pacific
Islanders, which they acquired by eating the brains of dead relatives.
Agriculture Canada should just admit that this is the case and let us
all take or reject the risks of beef up front but holy cow, stop feeding
animal products to ungulates. We all gamble with higher odds than this
daily when we drive to work and use our cell phones.
