Computing Bald Eagle Life Expectancy for Squamish Wintering Eagles
10 Dec 2012
I looked at my survivorship data and applied regression curve fitting to the means of the juvenile cohort shrinkage data and came up with the following smoothing and projection method.

It worked pretty nicely and also projected the type of results I expected. Cx is the age of the eagle while 'Ex' is the life expectancy.:))

For the mathematical raptor population biologists out there. Enjoy. Happiness is when the math works the way it ought to. I also developed a projection equation for predicting the maximum age of eagles and real data works pretty good in it. http://jyrkkanenconservationbiology.wordpress.com/tag/bald-eagles/ For that one I thank Ricker, that fabulous mathematical fisheries biologist and apologize for pilfering his equation to suit my own ends, or eagle ends more appropriately.
