We are first and foremost apes which have evolved a larger brain and thinking capacity than most creatures on earth, possibly all of them.
But our essence is that we are bundled molecularized cannibal quarks bound by gluons encapsulated by electrons who ponder father Higgs, relativistic quantum mechanics, string theories; stardust that ponders mother Novas; electrical synapses that ponder DNA and comparative genomics and cyberspace creations; a creature that invented the Gods and Apple computers and a robot on Mars; who elucidated the code for life on earth and the standard model of the universe and will possibly one day elucidate the Theory of Everything. We may one day prove that a General Theory of Universal Evolution is true for the whole universe. We are the universe made by the universe from itself by physical and organic evolution, the creators in the universe, into a sentient being, the mind of the universe which is part of our body, pondering the universe.
An early pre-scientific relationship developed between humans and the unknown in a time when story-telling, myths and superstition created cultural beliefs and many stories became incarnated into fixed cultural beliefs about what we are and what is our relationship to the universe. They are all stages in our understanding and knowledge which humans have evolved through. Even with science the vastness of unknowns increases daily with every discovery but so does awareness of our true place in the physical universe.
The truth is every bit as miraculous as our ancient stories and a powerful foundation for a spiritual connection to the universe that is founded in fact wherever cultural diversity wishes to take it. Pantheism is already gaining momentum as are the teachings of those philosophers who believe all things are connected and we must live in harmony. Knowing that the creator is universal evolution and we share elements and quarks across the universe is assurance that we humans are true citizens of the cosmos and all its wonderful powers.
