Dr. David Monroe, an American NW toxicologist and myself were collaborating on investigating a lead he got that there might be non-ionic surfactants in glyphosate based herbicides.
I suspected Monsanto's glyphosate herbicide was concealing nasties and had a DFO Fishery Officer collect a sample from MOF for analysis. The formulation they used was called Vision. The MOF District pesticide officer was happy to oblige sure it would be clean. I had the officer send the samplel to Cantest Labs in North Vancouver for analysis.
The result came back with 350 ppm carcinogenic 1,4-dioxane. We were shocked but not surprised. I have since learned from the Lancet, that suicides in Japan from people drinking a cup of Roundup, where doctors analyzed the samples and found another carcinogenic toxin in Roundup, polyoxyethyleneamine (POEA).
Both POEA, polyoxyethylenamine and 1,4-dioxane are listed in my N. Irving Sax's book, Cancer Causing Chemicals.
I sent my finding off to The Province who refused to publish it. I sent copies to the Federal Ministry of Forests and there was no response for over a month. Then it became known as the Jyrkkanen Thing and was never spoken of publicly.
Finally after ages, the Federal Minister of Forests Acknowledged it was true and since the dioxane served no useful purpose he would ask them to reduce it.
We had been told that glyphosate pesticides were safe and indeed children in Kitimat BC had been exposed to a municipal spraying with bare legs.
This finding of two carcinogens in a federally approved herbicide in widespread use around the world is a matter of grave concern. How did it happen that it was approved. Who lied to whom?
The public has a right to know.
