Cannabinoids Found Causing Cancer Progression and ~4X Addiction in Thailand. 2022-11-21. Jorma Jyrkkanen

Are CANNABINOIDS Good for Cancer Therapies or do they cause or promote cancer? Its Not a Simple story.2022-11-21. Jorma Jyrkkanen STATUS AMONG REGULATORS Overview Cannabis, also known as marijuana, is a plant grown in many parts of the world. It makes a resin (thick substance) that contains compounds called cannabinoids (see Question 1). By federal law, possessing Cannabis is illegal in the United States outside of approved research settings. However, a growing number of states, territories, and the District of Columbia have passed laws to legalize medical and/or recreational marijuana (see Question 1). Cannabinoids are chemicals in Cannabis that cause drug-like effects in the body, including the central nervous system and the immune system (see Question 2). The main psychoactive cannabinoid in Cannabis is delta-9-THC. Another active cannabinoid is cannabidiol (CBD), which may relieve pain, lower inflammation, and decrease anxiety without causing the "high" of delta-9-THC (see Question 2). Cannabinoids can be taken by mouth, inhaled, or sprayed under the tongue (see Question 4). Cannabis and cannabinoids have been studied for relief of pain, nausea and vomiting, anxiety, and loss of appetite caused by cancer or the side effects of cancer therapies (see Question 6). Two cannabinoid drugs (dronabinol and nabilone) are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the prevention or treatment of nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy (see Question 6 and Question 8). The FDA has not approved Cannabis or cannabinoids for use as a cancer treatment.
University of California San Diego School of Medicine researchers have identified the molecular mechanism activated by the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — the ingredient that causes people to feel the euphoria or “high” associated with cannabis — in the bloodstream that accelerates cancer growth in patients with human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. “HPV-related head and neck cancer is one of the fastest growing cancers in the United States. While at the same time, exposure to marijuana is accelerating. This is a huge public health problem,” said Joseph A. Califano III, MD, senior author and professor and vice chief of the Division of Otolaryngology in the Department of Surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is the sixth most common cancer worldwide. These cancers begin in the cells that line the mucous membranes inside the mouth, nose and throat. Approximately 30 percent of cases of this disease are related to HPV infection, and it is these cases, in particular that are on the rise. Califano suggested increased marijuana use may be a driving factor. Previous studies have linked daily marijuana exposure to an increased prevalence of HPV-related throat cancer. However, a mechanism linking cannabis exposure to increased growth of the cancer was unknown. Reporting in the January 13, 2020 online edition of Clinical Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, researchers outline how the presence of THC in the bloodstream activates the p38 MAPK pathway, which controls programmed cell death called apoptosis. When activated, p38 MAPK prevents apoptosis from occurring, thus allowing cancer cells to grow uncontrollably. Working with Chao Liu, MD, visiting scientist at UC San Diego and a physician at China’s Central South University, and other colleagues, Califano and team used animal and human cell lines to show that THC turns p38 MAPK on and were able to stop the growth of HPV-positive head and neck cancer by turning off the pathway. The team then analyzed blood samples from patients with HPV-related throat cancer who had their genomes comprehensively mapped to define activated gene pathways. Similar to the cell lines, the blood samples showed p38 MAPK activation and loss of apoptosis in tumors from patients with THC in their blood. In another study Hart S, Fischer et al. found that concentrations of THC comparable with those detected in the serum of patients after THC administration accelerate proliferation of cancer cells instead of apoptosis and thereby contribute to cancer progression in patients. This has major ramifications for treatment of HPV cancers which are so prevalent at this time.
The cell cycle is normally controlled by cellular oncogenes, Rb phosphorylation and P53 Surveillance and any interference in this process can have significant consequences. These need to be examined very carefully.
Guggisberg et al. found in their review that there was insufficient evidence that marijuana has any beneficial effect on cancer.
MARIJUANA SMOKE ANALYSIS
2575 different compounds are detected (IN MARIJUANA SMOKE) of which, 670 and 536 (231 in common) are tentatively identified, and of these, 173 and 110 different compounds (69 in common) are known to cause negative health effects through carcinogenic, mutagenic, teratogenic, or other toxic mechanisms. QED. CASE CLOSED. WEED IS TOXIC. ANALYSIS SUMMARY: 1.There is evidence for increase in cancer spread and the mechanism is elucidated. 2.There is insufficient evidence from past studies of any beneficial effect regarding cancer. 3. Marijuana smoke is going to potentially turn peoples early HPV cancers into aggressive cancers when people are exposed to second hand smoke. 4. There is a potential for cannabis users and those exposed who have worsened cancers of more easily spreading the HPV cancers which are contracted by intimate contact and HPV containing bodily fluids and exudates. 5. The smoke contains many toxic health risk chemicals. ACTIONABLE EXPOSURES: I think a class action against the Trudeau Government is also in order for negligent homicide for failure to conduct proper pre-approval studies validating public safety and ignoring existing evidence of harm. LEGALIZATION IN THAILAND LINKED TO INCREASE IN ADDICTION BY ~4x
