The impact of Doctors and Physicians and Modern Medicine on Evolution of the Human Genome jjyrkkanen76@outlook.com Mar. 22nd, 2009 at 4:01 PM The impact of Doctors and Physicians and Modern Medicine on Evolution of the Human Genome. 22 March 2009 If one asks the question, what is the impact of medicine, physician care and surgeons on the human genome, one is led to a simple answer. All those who are alive because of medical intervention be it immunization, antibiotic treatment, modern medicines for different conditions, physician care and surgery, are individuals who would have been killed by natural selection. These individuals represent the ones who by predominantly defective genomes or behavioral deficits or by chance alone, would have been removed from the genome but were prevented from such fate by modern medicine. They also represent the burden of unfit genes that are stored in the collective human genome and as such can be considered surplus humans to the evolutionary process. Evolution works by removing unfit individuals and deleterious genes in a statistical way. Thus modern medicine is leading towards an accumulation of deleterious genes and genotypes in the human gene pool. I am led to the conclusion that this is an evolutionarily unsustainable practice and would lead unchecked to extinction of our species as there is no precedent for it anywhere in nature.
